Cricketing legend Brad Hogg and a cavalcade of World Champion cyclists including Marianne Vos and her WM3 Pro Cycling team, Annemieke van Vlueten, Robbie McEwen, Emma Pooley and Luke Durbridge will be in Balingup on Sunday 12th November for the Stage Three finish and the start of Stage Four of the Tour of Margaret River Road Cycle Race.
The unique format of the Tour means that amateur cyclists can compete directly against riders from the pro tour peloton. Designed especially for teams, the TOMR is a highly tactical race where competitors are allocated points in a way specific to each stage. Simply put, there is no other race on the world cycling calendar quite like the TOMR. With 750 riders forming 100 plus teams, the Tour of Margaret River is one of the largest competitive road cycling events in Australia.
Stage 3 – Sunday morning – 12th November, 2017 – is a 71km road race that starts in Nannup, goes through Kirup via South Cundinup and Cundinup Roads, travels along Kirup-Grimwade Road, onto Grimwade Road and down to the SW Highway and into Balingup. In a race to the finish, riders turn left onto Eliott Rise at the southern end of town to tackle the Mur de Hay, a twisting tortuous hillside stage where they will be crowned by the Medieval King and Queen upon reaching the top.
Stage 4 – Sunday afternoon – 12th November, 2017 – is a 42km Team Time Trial starting in Balingup near the Tavern. After ‘refuelling’ in Balingup for a few hours, riders will be sent off in their teams of 6, for this time trial stage. Travel south-east along Balingup-Nannup Road, riders will return to Nannup.
Find a vantage point along the road or make your way to the Stage Finish or Start points to see 750 riders cross the line…many of them the best cyclists in the world.
Throughout the day Balingup will transform into a Cycling Village where you can meet’n greet cycling greats from around the world! A variety of stalls and food vendors will be available, plus all that Balingup has to offer with cafes, shops and curios!
We have one Cottage still available for this spectacular event – phone Balingup Heights now to be part of cycling history! Balingup Heights Hilltop Forest Cottages – 08 9764 1283.
